Project Assignment—Art and Architecture of the Roman Empire

For this project, choose one of the types of art or architecture below. 
Types of Buildings

3.     Aqueducts/Sewers (Pont du Gard)
4.     Baths (Bath, England)
5.     Theatres (Theatre of Orange)
6.     Memorial/Celebratory Arches (Trajan’s Arch)
7.     Fora (Roman Forum)
8.     Housing (Pompeii)
9.     Basilica (Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine)

TASK:
Create a presentation that consists of:
          1.  A hands-on item (book, model, artifact) that you can pass around the class
          2.  A 7-10 minute presentation using any media—paint or sculpture, film, drama, storytelling, a children’s book, an academic lecture, a speech of an emperor--that:
·        Provides a brief history and clear description of the type of art/structure
·        Focuses on one example of note  (some examples are listed above, but you do not have to choose that particular example)
·        Includes a description of building/artistic materials and innovative architectural/artistic techniques (dome, column, arch, etc.) involved in this structure.
·        Demonstrates some use of Latin vocabulary
3.  A two-page handout that summarizes the bullet points above.
v The class will present their work the week of April 22nd.

If you choose to work in partnerships, you must do two presentations and your grade will be an average of the two presentations.
